Hurdles Record Broken
The former Canterbury long Jump and triple jump Champion, K. Simpson (Toe H) set a Canterbury record of 24.45ec for the 220 yards hurdles at the inter-club track and field meeting at Rugby Park on Saturday evening. Simpson beat two Otago University athletes. A. Dougall and A Cranshaw, and P. Robinson (High School Old Boys). Simpson had earlier finished third in the 100 yards sprint, won by D. McKenzie (University). McKenzie was first out of the blocks and resisted a strong challenge from A. Tweedie (H. 5.08. to win in the good time of lOsec. McKenzie, attempting to complete a double, faded to third in the 440 yards event, behind Tweedie and G. McKechnie (University). H. Ruffell (Technical) improved his junior shot put record to 52ft 7in on his sixth throw.
