Englishmen Win Speedway Test

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. Consistency was the keynote in England’s overwhelming 69-39 win over New Zealand in the first motor-cycle speedway test at the Western Springs Speedway on Saturday night.

Only tw’o of the New Zealanders, R. Andrews, himself a former English international now living in New Zealand, and the Napier star, F. Timmo, looked like matching the skill of the visitors. Both men scored on a par with the Englishmen whilte the three other Kiwis, B. Subritzky, M. Neil and L. Jelaca, rarely finished in a major place. The last member of the team, G. Peterson (Taranaki), who was brought into the side after F. Shutter failed to pass a medical test, looked promising. He scored only four points in

the series, but had the satisfaction of winning a heat ahead of the English pair, T. Beets and H. Cole. Andrews scored 15 points out of a possible 18 and tied as top scorer with the English captain, N. Boocock. Each scored a convincing w T in in their two meetings. Timmo scored 12 points, Subritsky four, and Neil three. Jelaca, who came out of retirement some weeks ago, was called into the New Zealand side as reserve when Peterson was promoted, the test was less than a lap old when he was called upon to appear.
