Soldiers Again Aid Injured

For the second time in two days soldiers from Burnham Military Camp on Saturday night assisted persons injured in a road accident.

Six were injured when two cars collided at the intersection of the Main South Road and Aylesbury Road about 10.30 p.m. Four were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital. Aylesbury Road leads to Burnham Camp, and assistance was given by men of the 3rd Field Ambulance and by provosts.

Jeana Johnstone, of 36 Thomas Street, Ashburton, suffered fairly serious head and arm injuries; David John Whinham, of 25 Willow Street, Ashburton, suffered head injuries, and Jennifer Ann Mollar, of 460 Marine Parade, suffered head and leg injuries. The condition of these three was described last evening as fairly comfortable. Desmond Peter Mollar, also of 460 Marine Parade, suffered

head injuries, his condition being satisfactory. The others injured were treated and discharged. They are Lynn Collins, of 58 Chalmers Avenue, Ashburton, and Paul William Lang, of No. 3 R.D., Ashburton, who suffered head injuries and shock. In the other accident, on Friday night, soldiers assisted nine persons who had been injured. Five were admitted to hospital after two cars collided at 9.30 p.m. on the Main South Road about three-quar-ters of a mile south of Rolleston and the others were treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged.

Maureen Walker, care of the Princess Margaret Hospital, was admitted to the hospital with head, arm and leg injuries. Her condition last evening was satisfactory. Grant Ramsay, of 27 Oxford Street, Timaru, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with head, arm, and leg injuries and shock. His condition last evening was also satisfactory.

Raymond Worthington, of 7 Williams Street, Timaru, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital with head injuries, but had been discharged by yesterday, as had been Gloria Jean Theyers, of 35 Russell Square, Timaru, who suffered head injuries. Marlene Marr, of 410 Worcester Street, was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital with head, arm and leg injuries and shock. Those treated and discharged were Robert Everson Beaumont, of 16 Joy Street

Four persons were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital yesterday after two cars collided at the intersection of Gloucester Street and Avonside Drive about 5.30 p.m.

Robert Verrall, of 78 North Parade, was admitted with head injuries. His condition last evening was satisfactory, as was the condition of Anthony Robert Jackson, of 3 Whareora Terrace, who suffered head and arm injuries. Lynette Cooper, of 29 Somme Street, suffered head injuries. Her condition last evening was fairly satisfactory. George Adam, of 31 Eureka Street, who also suffered head injuries, was in a satisfactory condition. Other Accidents

When the car in which he was travelling struck a parked car in Springs Road, near the Main South Road, about 1 a.m. yesterday, Terry Neale, of 24 Dickson Crescent, suffered head injuries. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition yesterday was fairly satisfactory. Two persons were injured

when two cars collided at Parikawa, 31 miles north of Kaikoura, about 3 p.m. yesterday. Both cars were extensively damaged.

The collision occurred between a car being driven north by Derek William Martin, of Stoke, Nelson, and a car travelling south, driven by Cynthia Margaret Bensemann, of 497 Durham Street, Christchurch.

A passenger in Mr Martin’s car, Gary Price, aged 18, of Nelson, was admitted to the Kaikoura Hospital for observation. Miss Bensemann suffered only minor injuries. Dr A. W. S. Ritchie, -of Christchurch, who was passing, attended the injured.
