PLEA TO MOTORISTS
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, January 21.
The 3] million members of Britain’! Automobile Association have been Invited to give their organs for immediate use in transplant surgery if they die suddenly in motoring accidents. The “Save a Stranger’s Life" appeal appears in the latest issue of the A.A. magazine sent to all members. Two thousand lives a year could be saved if the nation’s 15 million motorists answered the plea, the magazine suggests.
The appeal is based on the view that those killed in read accidents have often been in good general health and that their bodies are brough to hospital soon after, or even before, death. It is estimated that more than 1000 A.A. members die in road accidents every year. Every member of the A.A. has received a consent form, which the motorists is asked to sign and carry always. It would enable hospital surgeons to make use of eye cornea, kidneys, liver, heart and lungs for transplants after death.
