RANDOM REMINDER

GOODWILL TO ALL MILKMEN

The habit of leaving out presents for the refuse collectors, the bakers and the milkmen is a pleasant one, and it seems to us a pity that the practice is not more widely observed. It would be a kindly thought to send presents to one’s accountant, and to the chap who pulls petrol for one all through the year. The coalman shouldn’t be forgotten, just because the hot season is with us. nor should the grocer, or the chemist; in

fact all the people whose services win appreciation throughout the year should be remembered. Of course there is the strong possibility of all these people feeling just as w* do, and all sending us presents too. It would make for a very busy Christmas, but extremely good for trade, which would, be very satisfactory. But of course one must face the prospects of things being messed up a bit, as they were in a hill-

side suburb just before Christmas. The kindly thoughts which inspire Christmas gifts are not confined to tradesmen and their clients; in this instance, a woman sent a beautifully-arranged box of home-made confectionery to her neighbour, leaving it in his gate box; the neighbour left some beer out for the milkman; and the milkman wrote a kind note to the neighbour, thanking him for the beer and the sweets.
