Stablemates Win At Cramped Odds

(from Our Own Zrporttr)

REEFTON.

The Reefton stablemates, Count Down and Debbie Marie, paid $6.60 in winning the T.A.B. double on their home course yesterday. Both horses are trained by J. Lalor, and were ridden by E. G. Low.

Count Down's win brought a change of luck to the stable, which had been represented in all previous races at the twoday meeting. Besides Count Down, Lalor had Clipper and Jet Girl in the first leg yesterday. As well as Debbie Marie he had Jayess, Bed Treasure, and Reefton Gold in the second leg. The meeting was held in fine, hot weather and the track was hard and fast. There was a moderate attendance. Adopting his usual role of pacemaker, Count Down ran out a decisive winner in the Amalgamation Handicap. A round from home he was two to three lengths clear of his .atablemate, Clipper, which was followed a length away by Warm Up, winner of the main race on the first day, Serengeti, Jet Girl, White Skies, and Petite Arnie. Count Down continued to hold his advantage round the turn, and was not seriously challenged. finishing clear of Clipper, which was two lengths ahead of Warm Up.

Taxman reached the front at the end of a furlong in the Jack O'Donnell Memorial. Closest to him were Debbie Marie, Jayess, Ursinus, and Reefton's Gold. There was no change at the half-mile, and once in line for home Debbie Marie challenged Taxman to go on and beat him by a length. Serengeti was third a similar distance back. Red Treasure was half a length away, followed by the tiring Jayess, Reefton's Gold, and Ursinus. Results: — INNOVATION STAKES $35«; about Sf. 4/4 VICKIH MARIK (7) 8-5 N. T.
