(N.Z.PA.-neuter) BANGKOK. The face of Suvimol Piyaphan, the “sawaddi (greeting) girl,” doing the “wai” (folded palm salute) in the advertisements for the Thai International Airline, has appeared at least four million times all over the world in the last 15 months.

Of the photograph, taken in Bangkok by a well-known local photographer for a fee of about $3O, she says: “The picture makes me look much prettier than I really am.” Suvimol, aged 20, whose parents have a coffee shop in Chiengrai province, on the Burmese border, Uvea with an elder sister in Bangkok, helping her with her dressmaking business.
