Declining Epidemic

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 3. British agricultural experts are today anxiously watching a new spread in the nation’s foot-and-mouth disease epidemic.

Last night an outbreak of the disease was confirmed in Nottinghamshire for the first time. There have been several outbreaks recently in the neighbouring counties of Lin* coinshire and Derbyshire. Despite the Nottingham outbreak, however, there are signs of a continued decline in the incidence of the disease, and the Department of Agriculture last night relaxed certain restrictions on the movement of farm animals “in the interests of the livestock industry.” So far during the present epidemic more than 2190 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have been confirmed and more than 350,000 animals slaughtered.
