U.S. ‘Enemy’ Of Thailand

One of Thailand’s leading journalists said yesterday that Americans were just as much the enemies of Thailand as Communists.
Kukrit Pramoj, publisher of “Rath”, a leading Thai newspaper, accused Americans and American newspapermen of insulting Thailand’s King, destroying Thailand’s culture, and “bleeding and exploiting” small countries. He said that if Americans did not “take care”, some day the Thai people might smash down the Embassy and burn down the United States Information Service. Mr Kukrit is a grandson of King Monkut, who was the subject of Anna Leonowen’s book “Anna and the King of Siam”.
Bridge Toll 36.— The body of a young woman was recovered from the Ohio River yesterday, bringing to 36 the toll of known dead in the collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15.—Point Plea : sant (West Virginia), December 28.
