Honour For Umpire Mr A. B. McCallum, of Christchurch, has been elected a life member of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Umpires’ Association. Mr McCallum has been referee, tournament manager, or umpire at Canterbury tournaments since 1945 and has umpired every professional tour over the last 21 years. He served as president c-f the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Umpires’ Association from 1954-63, and has been vicepresident since then. Elected a life member in 1964, he has been a member of the association’s management committee since 1947, an examiner for the association, and a lecturer at its schools. From 1957-62 he was vicepresident of the Umpires’ Association and he has been referee at three national championships. He will be referee again next month. Mrs Long To Join Team

Although she will not attend any of the three tournaments of the national circuit as previously arranged, the Australian professional women’s tennis coach, Mrs Thelma Long, will still be the chaperon for the New Zealand girls’ Wilson Cup team when it arrives in Australia. She will also coach the side. Mrs Long advised by letter that ber arm injury would keep ber from playing for three weeks and that if the New Zealand association wished to send someone else to advise the girls’ team it i could. However, it has been decided that the team should still be helped by Mrs Long. Schwanner In Final (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. F. Schwanner, of Auckland, yesterday won through to the final of the North Island men’s tennis singles. Schwanner, who beat G. Spooner (Wairarapa), 6-2, 6-2. 6-8, 6-0, will play the winner of the semi-final match between A. Mclntyre (Wanganui) and J. Fergusson (Auckland). In the women’s singles final. Miss J. Purser (Taranaki) will meet Miss D. McNeilly (Hutt). Miss Purser beat Mrs MLewis (Auckland), 6-0, 6-2: and Miss McNeilly defeated Miss P. Dyer (New Plymouth) 2-6, 6-2, 12-10.
