Rand Succeeds At Taranaki

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. The Wanganui-trained Rand won the President's Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day ot the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting yesterday. Ridden by her trainer. M. O’Connor, Rand stayed in the middle of the eight-horse field for seven of the 11 furlongs. She Improved rapidly after the half-mile to head Regall and Golden Guy on the turn and went past the post two lengths ahead of Golden Guy, with the top-weight, Kublai Kahn, third a length away. The Inglewood Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double, was easily won by Lynbrae. The double, Rand and Lynbrae, paid $52.75.

The track was soft and there was a good crowd. Results:
