Chess Master Not To Play
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND
The international chess master, O. Sarapu, of Auckland, has decided to forgo the New Zealand chess championsnips which will open in Dunedin today, and to spend Christmas with his family—the first time in 10 years.
After returning from the world interzonal championships this month, he has not been doing any chess study. He said he was a bit sick of chess after his gruelling sixweek tournament with the world’s top professionals and then two weeks of simultaneous exhibitions, flying through Europe and North America. Sarapu said he had received an offer to play in an international tournament in Manila at Christmas, with expenses paid, but had declined.
