BOWLS Seven Fours Unbeaten In Christmas Tourney
Seven rinks are unbeaten in the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s annual Christmas fours tournament, and require only two wins today to qualify for post-section play tomorrow.
The unbeaten rinks are those of Coup (Kaiapoi), Malcolm (H als w e 11), Wilson (Burwood), Bradbury (Cashmere), Thompson (Oxford), Wallace (United), and Connal (Fendalton).
Coup, who was runner-up in the event last year, appears sure to qualify, and his task in post-section play will be made easier by the absence of the 1966 winner, H. Deavoll (Sydenham). Deavoll is going to Dunedin for the Dominion championships, which will start on Friday, and decided not to compete in the Christchurch tournament.
Among the rinks which have had three wins are those of R. Greenwood (Dallington>, J. Turpin (Canterbury), C. Rowe (Opawa), R. A. Lulham (Christchurch), and L. Newton (Dallington).
Other rinks which need three wins today to qualify for post-section play are: : Ward (Shirley), Roberts (Cashmere), Howden (Elmwood), Wall (Elmwood), Crombie (Fendalton), Arnott (Rangiora), Harrison (Akaroa), Bennett (Fendalton), Steele (Canterbury), Erridge (Opawa), Donaldson (Imperial!, Barnett (St Albans), Wilson (Fendalton), Barnes (Elmwood), Hayes (Amberley), McNeill (Rangiora), Hughes (Kaiapoi), McManus (South Brighton) and Orchard (Burnside). Play will start again at 8.30 a.m. today on the seven greens being used. Results were: Elmwood Green First Round. K. R. Smith (Christchurch 23. Parlane (Burwood) 10; Delahunty (Riccarton W.M.C.) 11.
