NEW ARCHDEACON FOR ST MARY’S
The Ven. R. P F. Plaistowe, vicar of Sumner-Heathcote and Archdeacon of Sumner since 1963, has been appointed vicar of St Mary’s, Merivale. He will begin nis new work towards the end of April. Archdeacon Plaistowe was educated at St John’s College, Durham, and at Clifton Theo-
logical College, Bristol, before being ordained deacon in 1935 and priest in 1936.
From 1935 to 1939 he was curate of the church of St Ambrose, Bristol, and for the next three years he was curate of St Alban’s Church,
Westbury Park, Clifton. He was vicar of Cleeve, Somerset, from 1941 to 1948.
In February, 1948, he came to New Zealand and was appointed vicar of St Peter’s, Palmerston North, where he remained until 1953. Archdeacon Plaistowe then moved to Timaru where for the next 10 years he was vicar of St Mary’s, and Archdeacon of Timaru. He was also Rural Dean of South Canterbury from 1953 to 1959.
