APPRAISAL OF WOOL

Big Private Sale

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 10. The largest consignment of wool purchased by private treaty to be appraised by the Wool Commission under the new deficiency payment scheme was inspected at Timaru today. The offering comprising 1050 bales of fine halfbred and strong crossbred lines, was purchased by private buyers in Mid-Canterbury, South Canterbury and North Otago.

Today the wool was inspected by two Wool Commission officers, the Deputy Chief Appraiser (Mr A. W. Patterson of Wellington) and an appraiser, Mr R. Buchanan of Christchurch.

Mr Patterson explained that under the new scheme the commission could purchase woolbuyers’ wool on the same basis as growers’ lines through the auction system. “Where the support price is applicable the supplement will be paid,” he said.
