Union Seeks Short Week

An attempt to introduce a 35-hour week for electrical workers will begin here next week. '. •

application for the shorter week is contained in an award to be filed with the Arbitration Court by the Northern Radio, Television and Electrical Workers’ Union.

The award will also ask for an Increase of $4 a week and equal rates of pay for female workers. Women electrical workers are currently paid about 70 per cent of the rate paid to men.

Contract miners are the only workers in New Zealand at present working a 35-hour week. They have had a sevenhour day for about 15 years.
