GUIDE FOR ANGLERS
New S.I.P.A. Booklet
An angler’s guide to the South Island has been produced by the South Island Publicity Association as the first publication of a planned “activities” series. The booklet was written by a Christchurch angler, Mr George Ferris, author of "The Trout are Rising.”
Intended as a guide for tourists interested in freshwater fishing, the booklet describes the principal trout iud salmon
waters at the South bland and suggests what flies or lures should be used. “The wealth of information Issued by our Tourist Department over the years has tended to create in the minds of visiting anglers the idea that trout Ashing in New Zealand is confined to an area in the North Island with Lake Taupo and its effluents as its centre,” says Mr Ferris in his introduction.
He says the fishing in those waters is certainly of a high order, but that not all visiting anglers want to be restricted to lure fishing—what the Americans call streamer fishing.
Mr Ferris deals with the best South Island fishing waters in a sequence that might be followed by a tourist travelling round the island. “Consideration has been given,” he says, "to scenery and tourist attractions within easy reach of fishing waters.”
Other booklets in the series will deal with winter sports and hunting in the South Island.
