Calm Autumn Easily

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND. Calm Autumn earned a chance of an Auckland Trotting Cup start when she trounced her rivals in the President’s Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Thames Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday night.

Calm Autumn is now on 2 min llsec. Horses in that class are eligible for the cup and some seem sure to get a start. One out without a trail for the first seven furlongs or so, Calm Autumn then took the lead. She began to put the pressure on her rivals from the half-mile and none could get near her in the straight. Poroti Pride shaded Bosun for second and Amend (fourth) was almost in line. The favourite, Southern Silver, failed badly. So did Mister Chips, the next best backed.

The Midhurst trotter, John Robin, capped several useful efforts with an end-to-end win in the second leg, the Brownlee Memorial. With Calm Autumn, he returned $201.65 in the T.A.B. double. The weather was fine and the track fast. ' BHult*.—
