Spreydon Upsets In Women’s Softball
Christchurch West suffered its second defeat of the season on Saturday when Spreydon, fielding in better style, backed Up the pitching of H. Thyne to gain a well deserved win in the senior women’s softball competition. Monowai A applied batting
pressure to gain an easy win over Monowai B. Results: Spreydon 10, Christchurch Monowai A 20. Monowai ■ 1. Avon bye. Christchurch West v. Spreydon At the end of the sixth innings Spreydon was leading 9-8 and scored K. Cooper in the sixth and last Innings while holding Christchurch West scoreless.'
M. May opened Spreydon’s scoring with a home run on errors, but this equalled by Christchurch West which had J. Paterson and I. Jones scoring home runs in the first innings. The home runs continued when S. Marsh hit one for Spreydon to give it a lead which was increased when four runs were scored in the fifth innings.
H. Thyne pitched well for Spreydon and showed her ability in the last innings when she struck but two batters.
Menowoi A v. Monowai B E. Weakley scored Monowai B’s run In the second innings, but that was the only time that the B side matched the A team. Monowai A did not score in its first innings, but in the other three innings scored 20 rnus for an easy win.
