UNIFORM FARES
Decision By I.A.T.A.
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MANILA, Dec. 10.
The 23rd annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association ended with an informal agreement on world-wide closed, or uniform, air rates.
Knut Hammarksjold, the I.A.T.A. secretary-general and the Philippine Air Lines’ president, Mr Benigno Toda jun., presided over the conference. They said the issue of uniform rates for the Americas had been discussed in a recent conference in Vina Del Mar, Chile, but no agreement had been reached. The decision for closed fares for the rest of the world, arrived at between the delegates in behind-the-scenes-talks, will be put to a "mail vote” among I.A.T.A. members.
If unanimous agreement is reached, the resolution will be turned over to the airlines’ respective governments, who can veto the proposal.
