EPIDEMIC SPREADS

(N Z P A -Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 9. Britain's foot-and-mouth virus today broke out of the tightly-controlled infected area and struck a farm in the eastern county of Lincolnshire. The new outbreak—one of 40 in the last 24 hours—brought fears that the germ would evade tight anti-disease barriers elsewhere and spread to more of the country's 35 million livestock. The eight-week-old epidemic has now hit nearly 1700 farms and cost the lives of 273 animals which nad come in contact with the infection.
