WATER POLO
Ryan Trophy Games Today Unbeaten this season, the senior water polo leader, University, will have to make full use of its experience and teamwork in today’s matches for the Ryan Trophy. It has drawn a bye in the first round but will meet the strong Wharenui side in the second round. The winner of the Ryan Trophy is decided by a knockout competition held on a national basis. The local section, which is being played today with the preliminary rounds at the St Albans Pool and the grand final at the Centennial Pool this evening, has attracted a record six club teams. Beckenham, the New Zealand finalist last season, has not entered a team. The small St Albans pool could well favour Wharenui in its opening match with University, and a great deal of interest will centre round this match. The winning Christchurch team will play the Dunedin winners in Christchurch next Saturday.
