ANTARCTIC RESEARCH
No Canadian Programme Canada had no thought of mounting a scientific programme in the Antarctic, said Dr O. M. Sol.mdt, chairman of the Science Council of Canada, in Christchurch yesterday. He said his visit to the Antarctic was a personal one. As a former chairman of the Defence Research Board in Ottawa he helped to influence Canadians and Americans in conducting risearch in the Arctic.
“Many of the people in the National Science Foundation in the Antarctic are people I know through our connections with Arctic research,” he said.
Canada was very interested in the research being carried out in the Antarctic, as many of the programmes were related to those going on in the Arctic.
“There is no necessity for us to come down here, as we have a very active exchange of information through the Arctic Institute of North America,” said Dr Solandt.
