Experiment Concluded

(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, Dec. 7. About 2500 cases of golden delicious apples, held in experimental controlled atmosphere storage since last season, were put on sale on the Hastings markets this mornThey sold at $2.50 a case. This is believed to be the first time controlled atmo-sphere-stored apples have been put on the open market in New Zealand. Their sale is regarded by the Apple and Pear Board as an experimental move to test consumer reaction. The fruit was not auctioned but sold at this fixed price and, according to a market spokesman, it was in excellent condition and could have been sold at double the price.
