Only nine of the scheduled 12 matches were played at Blenheim before rain stopped but they were enough to give Canterbury a decisive lead of 8 matches to 1 so that it could not lose.

Not played were the singles between the two top players, the singles between the second players and one doubles. Canterbury’s only defeat was suffered by Miss J. Bishop, the fourth woman, when she was beaten by Miss H. Blick, 7-5, 6-4. A senior club player in Christchurch several years ago.

Miss Blick also played well in the first set of her match with the third Canterbury woman Miss C. Andrew. Miss Andrew won the first set, 8-6, but she had to struggle for it. As against Miss Bishop, Miss Blick got almost everything back and Miss Andrew was not able to sustain her attack. After a break during rain. Miss Andrew came out and won the second set with the loss of only one game. Canterbury’s top woman, Miss R. Legge, began slowly and lost the first set to Miss R. Smith before she produced her true form and showed better control to win the next two easily. Miss R. Dillon was not troubled to beat Mrs J. Wass, the top Marlborough woman, with the loss of only two games by driving hard and accurately. Results (Canterbury names first)Singles Miss R. Legge v. Mrs J. Wass, not played; beat Miss R.
