THISTLES ARE OUT

Seed areas entered for certification this year may be rejected on account of the presence of nodding thistle, and farmers should take action to remove thistles in advance of field inspections of crops being made by officers of the Department of Agriculture. Mr J. E. Cummings, senior seed certification assistant, said this week that it was expected that field inspection of grass

and elover seed crops would begin on Monday. “Farmers are reminded that areas can be rejected for the presence of nodding thistle this year,” he said, “and accordingly they are advised to make every endeavour to remove these thistles before field inspection. In many cases it will not be possible for inspecting officers to make return visits to confirm that nodding thistles have been removed.”
