THE LEADER IS the senior New Zealand officer in Antarctica and is responsible for the implementation of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Programme. As he will have overall control of New Zealand field and base activities, leadership qualities and organising ability are essential. Experience in any of the following fields is desirable but not essential. Ice and snow techniques; search and rescue operations; radio communications; geophysical or biological sciences; mechanical, engineering or building services; surveying, mapping and aerial reconnaissances. A salary of $4050 per annum with an Antarctic allowance of $lOOO per annum for a married man or $550 per annum for a single man will be paid.
