Czechs Unbeaten 5 Games, 26 Goals
(New Zealand Frees Association;
AUCKLAND.
The Czechoslovakian soccer club, Slavia Praha, arrived in Auckland yesterday by air with an unbeaten record in five games in North America.
Its goal-scoring feats 26 in five matches—could spell trouble for Auckland and Canterbury, its opponents during the team’s short tour of New Zealand. Slavia will play Auckland at Newmarket Park this evening, and Canterbury at English Park on Monday evening. In the first game of a world tour, to celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the club, Slavia drew, 0-0, with the Greek Americans, the day after arriving in New York.
It went on to beat Chicago Mustangs, 8-1, a North California select side, 8-1, in San Francisco, and the California All Stars, 1-0 and 9-1 in Los Angeles.
With the mass import of European professionals into the American game over the last 12 months, it is an impressive list of performances. Two weeks before leaving Czechoslovakia, Slavia beat Sparta Prague, 1-0, the team that turned on a dazzling display to over-run Auckland,
12-1, last January. Earlier, Slavia had beaten Dukla Prague, the formidable Czech Army side, 2-1.
