Rethinking U.K. And U.S. Links

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 30.

The British Foreign Secretary, Mr George Brown, said tonight that Britain is thinking more and more in terms of the Atlantic Alliance and less in terms of United States-British links.

“Britain has decolonised and we no longer need, nor can we afford, to keep our forces stationed as in the past, all round the world,” he said in a speech prepared for

delivery to the English-Speak-ing Union’s Churchill banquet. Guests included Lady Spencer-Churchill. “Our strength relative to the United States, has declined. And today we think more and more in terms of Atlantic relations and less in terms of United States-British links.” Mr Brown said he believed that these changes were not a danger to Anglo-American relations. The Foreign Secretary said that because of President de Gaulle’s statements earlier this week he wanted to repeat these words: “Our destiny lies here in our continent of Europe.”
