(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, November 21. The number of registered unemployed in Christchurch rose 154 to 504 in die fortnight ended November 17.
The n a t i o n a I increase in the same period was 377 to 5193.
The Minister of Labour (Mr Shand) said in Wellington today that the main reason for the increase in unemployment registrations was the re-enrol-ment by men who were no longer employed on special Government works because their jobs were completed,” he said. There were 1738 men employed on special Government works at November 17, compared with 2487 on October 31.
Mr Shand said that male enrolments on the employment register rose from 4127 to 4370 over the last fortnight and female registrations rose from 729 to 823.
