“DEPRIVED OF RIGHT”
Rugby Tour Postponed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Anticipation of the renewal of Rugby relationships between New Zealand and South Africa was the keynote of a reception at the offices of the New Zealand Rugby Union yesterday. The union was host to the captain of the 1937 Springboks, Mr P. J. Nel, and his fellow member of the South African wool delegation to the I.W.S. conference.
Welcoming them, the chairman of the union, Mr T. C. Morrison, said New Zealand looked forward to the association between South Africa and this country being returned to an even keel. Mr Nel said that he was neither politician nor Rugby legislator but he was pleased to hear Mr Morrison express himself in that way. “It was a terrible disappointment to me and to everyone else in South Africa when this year’s tour was postponed, With tact and diplomacy, the little trouble there is now can be overcome,” he said.
“It is over to the legislators to put it right because we feel we are being deprived of our right to entertain New Zealanders in our country.”
