FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —The depression centred in the Tasman Sea extends on to New Zealand and is moving slowly eastwards. Forecast; Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong easterlies; cloudy with periods of mainly light rain: rather mild. Canterbury.—Moderate or fresh easterlies: dull with further rain mainly light; temperatures rising slowly. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Easterly winds, fresh in many places, but strong to gale force in northern parts of Nelson; overcast and mild with periods of rain. Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Coast - South-east gales through and about western parts of Cook Strait but fresh or strong winds elsewhere; dull with rather persistent light rain: mild.
