“"Dry” Town Votes For Tavern
(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, November 9.
The people of Rongotea, where no liquor has been sold since 1905, yesterday voted overwhelmingly for a tavern. Nearly 90 per cent of those eligible to vote did so, 70 per cent of them in favour.
Mr A. J. Galpin, who applied for the licence, said this morning that work would begin on the tavern as soon as a clearance had been received from the Licensing Control Commission.
But, he said, there was some early confusion because of the commission’s instructions to voters.

the removal of the licence." It took some voters a long time to work this out, and at least four had to be issued with new forms after making mistakes. One voter voted the wrong way and realised his error 20 minutes later, when nothing could be done. The confusion ended when a notice clarifying the matter was posted in the polling booth.
