B.H.P. Strikes Gas
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Nov. 9. Esso-B.H.P. has struck gas in its first wild-cat well off the South Australian coast. The strike continues the group’s fantastic success in offshore drilling. Oil experts gave EssoB.H.P. only a 50-to-l chance of success in the first South Australian well, called Crayfish A-l, in the Otway Basin. A joint announcement from the group today said the drill had encountered a mud logging show of dry gas at 5250 ft.
