HOMES FOR AGED
Licensing Of All Sought
With the object of pressing i for the licensing of all nursing and convalescent homes, owners of homes with licences met in Christchurch this week to form an organisation. The secretary of an interim committee of owners (Mrs M. A. Faulkner) said that recent legislation required homes for six or more aged persons to be licensed. The Health Department insisted on rigid standards, and owners of licensed homes considered that all should come up to this standard. Criticism of some small homes not up to standard had affected the good name of all. Some small homes were excellent It was hoped to restrict the use of the terms "nursing home” or “convalescent home” to those with licences. Of about 60 privates homes in Christchurch, about 20 were licensed. A branch of the Auckland association of licensed owners was formed at the meeting but it would be more or less independent of the Auckland association, Mrs Faulkner said. A committee, whose initial task was to stimulate public interest in licensed nursing homes, was also set up. Officers elected were: president, Mr C. Van der Veer; vice-president, Mr L. Jones; treasurer, Mr S. McDowall; secretary, Mrs M. A. Faulkner, committee, Mesdames J. White, M. Flood and B. Tobutt.
