ANTIQUE AUCTION

A Georgian Royal Doulton lidded urn vase realised the top price of $550 at an auction sale held on Wednesday at the Kaiapoi premises of R. G. Bell and Company. This 23in vase, hand-painted by George White, was shown at the 1925 Dunedin Exhibition. Almost 400 lots were offered, including antiques, silver, ceramics, artifacts, jewellery, porcelain and china. Among other wellsought items were a French ebonised credence with ormolu decoration and Sevres plaques $350; Sheraton writing bureau, $350; burr walnut women’s davenport, $250; Afghanistan hand-made carpet, $220; Victorian rosewood work box, $250; Georgian grandfather clock, $160; handmade Persian carpet, $200; Georgian mahogany chest, $220; 1830 Coalport porcelain basket, $180; Royal Worcester figurine, $5O; and Meissen figurine, $45.
