Goods Trains Delayed
A power fault in the Otira tunnel, presumably caused by lightning last night, caused a delay of six hours in goods train services between Otira and Arthur’s Pass. The overhead power lines which drive the electric trains between the two centres were put out of action at 10.48 p.m. and power was not restored until 4.44 a.m. today. Rail-car services were not affected. The lightning also caused damage to telegraph lines to Hokitika and Otira.
