Teams Agreed For New Soccer League
The affiliated associations have completed arrangements and agreed on the composition of the two divisions to comprise the central soccer league next season.
It is the second of the three regional competitions, planned as forerunners to a national league, to be set up. The Northern League, based on Auckland, is being extended next season to take in the whole northern region. The third competition will be the Southern League which has been bogged down under financial difficulties for i the last two years. A meetI ing of southern associations [is being convened this month ■by the national body to (attempt to reach agreement Ifor the Southern League to . start next season.
Moturoa (New Plymouth), St Andrew’s, Massey University (Palmerston North), .Athletic, Lansdowne United (Masterton) and Horowhenua. Sponsor Not Considered Gate receipts from league matches will go to the associations on whose grounds the matches are being played. The Wellington F.A. has set aside 52240 for travelling expenses incurred by Wellington clubs. Visiting teams will be billeted. Commenting on the question of finding a sponsor, Mr |J. H. Hipkiss, chairman of the Wellington F.A., said that this was felt to be unwise in the first year of the league. “A sponsor does not want to put money into something Ihe has not yet seen,” he' added.
The two divisions in the Central League will comprise: First: Hungaria, Western Suburbs. Wellington United, Diamond, Waterside, Miramar Rangers (all Wellington), Eastern Union (Gisborne), Thistle, Kiwi United (Palmerston North) and Napier Rovers.
