I New Zealand, hard-hit by injuries, has had to make changes in its team to play; Singapore in the South Vietnam National Day soccer tournament. Not considered for selection were the goal-keeper. N. Siebert (bruised shoulder),! the back, D. Taylor (throat in- j fection) and the forwards C. I Shaw (pulled hamstring) and! J. Ferrier (throat infection).; The team is: O. Nuttridge, I C. Latimour, P. Rennell, T. I McNab, G. Lake; A. Caldwell,. A. Gowans, R. Mears; S. Nemett, W. E. Thomas, B.; Turner. A tired Australian team held on to beat South Vietnam. 1-0 and virtually clinched first place in Section A of the tournament on Tues-| day. A goal after 35 minutes byl J. Warren proved decisive. In the first half, the bigger and stronger Australians were in command. But after the interval the speedier Vietnamese ran them off their feet. Only South Vietnam's lack of an effective goal striker plus grim Australian defence, led by the centre-half R. van Alphen. kept them at bay. In Section B. South Korea retained its unbeaten record by defeating an enthusiastic Thailand, 3-1. The agile Koreans played brilliantly at times on the rain-soaked field but the Thais contributed to their defeat by wealc passing.
