(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. Officials of the Law Society will have authority to enter forcibly an search a solicitor’s office if a bill given a second reading in Parliament tonight is passed. The Attorney-General (Mr Hanan) said that the relevant clause in the Law Practitioners Amendment Bill covered an anomaly in the present legislation. “If a solicitor is getting into difficulties or turns out to be a black sheep, then in the interests of the public it will sometimes be necessary and desirable for the authorities to act with very great speed,” he said. The bill gives Law Society officials the right to apply to a judge or magistrate for authority to enter premises, by force if necessary, to search and to take possession of legal records.
