TRADE HOPES
Talks With Russia (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 8. The Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce (Mr M. J. Moriarty) said today he was hopeful that fairly frequent talks between representatives of his department and members of the Russian Legation in Wellington would lead to increased trade between the two countries. Mr Moriarty was commenting on the possibility of highlevel trade talks between Russia and New Zealand, referred to by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) on Tuesday. Mr Moriarty said Russia had been a good buyer in the last few years, particularly for wool which was prominent in all talks. “We are also anxious to try to sell other farm products to the Russians,” he said. “In return, they are keen to sell us agricultural machinery, fertilisers, machine tools and consumer goods such as salmon."
