Choice Of Tenor Nicola Filacuridi, a tenor who has appeared with Maria Callas. Joan Sutherland, Re nata Tebaldi, and Tito Gobbi, has been engaged to plav Lieutenant Pinkerton in the New Zealand Opera Company’s presentation of “Madame Butterfly” at the Pan Pacific Arts Festival in Christchurch next year. The opera will also be presented at the Auckland Festival, and for a short season in Wellington. Mr J. L Hartstonge, chain man of directors of the com pany, said Nicola Filacuridi's appearances with Callas Sutherland. Tebaldi and Gobbi placed him in the front rank. He was already well known in New Zealand because he had appeared as Pin kerton in the film of “Madam.Butterfly.” “Nicola Filacuridi brings to the New Zealand Opera Com pany a wealth of talent and experience which promises to make ‘Madame Butterfly’, with the Oriental soprano. Kiang Hwa. an exciting and memorable theatre experience,” he said.
