CONFLICT IN M.E.
Discussion By U.N. (N.Z.PA.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. The Security Council prepared today for a new attempt to lead the Arab States and Israel to a political settlement of their 19-year conflict. But Israel has rejected in advance one proposed peace formula which the council will consider and she appeared doubtful about a rival plan submitted by the United States. The two draft resolutions, submitted to the council yesterday, have in common a call for the Secretary-General, U Thant, to send a special United Nations envoy to the Middle East to try to promote a peaceful settlement. The council will probably discuss the Middle East issue tomorrow.
The Israeli Foreign Minister, Mr Abba Eban, arrived in New York last night after talks in London with British leaders and is expected to confer today with the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr Arthur Goldberg, and other council members.
