Space Station Security Zone

A seven square-mile area of land surrounding a new United States space station near Alice Springs has been declared a top-security zone. The joint United StatesAustralian station, to be run by the Australian Defence Department and an American agency, will be operating in 1969.

Reports have suggested that the station would be used by the Americans for contact with a manned orbiting laboratory for defence purposes.
