FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone is centred west of the North Island and pressures are low to the south-east of the country. Forecast: Kaikoura coast and Canterbury.—Northwesterlies strong in some inland areas, but elsewhere moderate variable winds; showery in the western high country; elsewhere variable skies with scattered showers at times, especially in the south; rather cool. Marlborough and the Sounds.—North-west or west winds predominating, often strong about the Sounds; fine weather with moderate or mild day temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong westerlies; cool and changeable with further showery periods, more especially later this morning. Nelson.—West to south-west winds, strong in exposed northern areas and occasionally fresh elsewhere; showers about the western ranges, but elsewhere mainly fine with moderate temperatures. Outlook: changeable westerly conditions still likely. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
