General Hester Delayed

Brigadier-General H. B. Hester, the retired United States Army general who was to speak in Christchurch last night in opposition to the war in Vietnam, was delayed in Wellington and did not arrive as planned to give the talk.

One of the organisers of the meeting, sponsored by the Christchurch Joint Council on Vietnam, Mr J. B. Stott, said General Hester’s flight did not leave Rongotai airport because of high winds. His arrival in Wellington had in turn been delayed because of an airways strike in Australia. He is expected in Christchurch this morning.

Swimmer Retires.—The Auckland national Olympic squad member. H. Brown, has decided to retire from competitive swimming. He will continue in club swimming.
