WOOL PRICES DOWN AGAIN

(NeiA Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, October 31. The decline in wool prices continued at the Wanganui sale today.

Compared with the Wellington sale, realisations were from par to 24 per cent down on good style wools and fully 24 per cent on average and inferior wools. A catalogue of 17,141 bales was submitted to a full bench of buyers, the official report says, the offering comprising 63 per cent full fleece wools (mostly hogget), 12 per cent early shorn, 10 per cent crutchings and 15 per cent oddments. The bulk of the wool was of good colour, showing slight yolk stain with yolk and water-stained edges. A noticeable feature was that the bulk of the offering was of a coarser quality to that of wools offered in the equivalent sale last season. The main faults were short stapled wools, the wide mixture of staple length within bales, the inclusion of odd coarse-quality fleeces, as with those lacking style and density. There was a marked improvement in the percentage of well-prepared, reclassed, and partly-skirted lines, with corresponding realisation. All -buying interests were present, the competition being keen and at times animated. The Wool Commission was rarely called on to bid, only the occasional neglected lot being passed to it.
