Increase Of 12,000 Men
W.Z. Preu A«»n. —Copyright) BANGKOK, Oct 30. Thailand will Increase Its forces In South Vietnam by a full army brigade totalling 12,000 men, the Thai Interior Minister, General Praphas Charusathien, said yesterday.
The general, who also holds the posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Army, told reporters before leaving for Saigon that the planned buildup would take place as soon as the United States provided arms and equipment for the brigade. He said the United States had “agreed in principle” to increase its military aid to Thailand. This would total about 3USIOOm this year. General Praphas, Thailand's second most powerful man, will represent Thailand at the inauguration of the South Vietnamese President, Lieutenant-General Nguyen Van Thieu, in Saigon tomorrow.
The addition of the brigade will raise Thailand’s fighting forces in South Vietnam to a total of some 15.000 men.
