Issues

Although the number of books issued by the Mairehau Public Library dropped slightly below last year’s figure, the library continued to play an important role in the district, said the president (Mr E. H. Quinn) in his annual report. In 1967, 41.544 books were issued. In the previous year the figure was 42.024. In the adult library 81 per cent of the books taken out had been fiction Membership of the adult library was 887—an increase of 112 over 1966.

' During the year 133 books i were issued through the suburban library request service, compared with 96 last year. More than 700 new books were acquired during the year.

The children's library issued 20.644 books. Of these 17.275 were fiction and 3369 non-fiction.

The following officers were elected:—President, Mr E. H. Quinn; vice-president, Mr B. Falloon: secretary, Mrs R. Shaw; treasurer, Mr B. Jenkins: supervisors (adult section), Mrs A. Gilchrist; (children’s section). Mrs;M. Parry: committee. Mesdames J. Anderson. M. Anderson. J. Eddy. N. Pitt. E. Mclvor, Miss G. Parry, Messrs C. Arden, N. O. Mangin, and W. Sparks.
