ASSURANCE TO FIRMS
(NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The Minister of Works (Mr Allen) has assured manufacturers that they will not be coerced by the Government into meeting arbitrary production targets. Mr Allen told the annual conference of the New Zealand Joinery Manufacturers' Federation that under its indicative planning, the Government would try to see that resources were allocated in the most useful way to activities with the greatest growth potential. “But we will use persuasion, not coercion," the Minister added. “We don’t intend to set arbitrary targets but, having shown where the possibilities could lead them, we will leave scope for individual ! businesses to take advantage of market conditions."
